Ryan at Pattis 1880s Settlement at Christmas time

Nothing says "Festive!" like Patti's 1880's settlement at Christmas time

Hey guys! I’m Ryan. I’m 22 years old, and working toward my Bachelor’s in Computer Science at Georgia Tech. I like to code, read, run, sing (in the shower), and laugh. Oh do I love to laugh.

Georgia Tech was definitely the right school for me, and my happiness inspired me to get involved in recruitment on campus. I work with an overnight recruitment program called Connect with Tech. It’s hard work, but I love every minute of it. Not only am I able to have a huge impact on one of the most important decisions that a student will make in his or her life, but it also allows me to remind myself every day why I chose Tech. I’m becoming involved in recruitment for the College of Computing as well, and I’m excited to see where that takes me. This past year, I was appointed as the Information Technology Committee Chair for Georgia Tech’s Student Government Association, and it’s been really challenging, interesting work.

When I’m not in Atlanta doing big city things, Paducah, Ky is the city I call home. I’ve spent my summers as an Intern at a Banking Software Company in P-town. Up until I left for college, I lived there all my life, so I’m pretty familiar with the teeny town.

I’ve been in love with technology ever since my Dad brought home the family’s first computer. The older I got, the more interested I became in the behind-the-scenes stuff. It started with HTML and Javascript(doesn’t it always?) and a year or so later, I was calling myself a programmer. I was doing a lot of Perl/CGI development in high school, and I really think that exposure to programming and databases gave me a leg up when I first arrived at Tech.

The technical stuff that really interests me? These are a few: artificial intelligence, the social aspects of the web, start-ups and entrepreneurship, computing education, and computational finance.
